Walking on Sunshine in Jacksonville – Family Fun Spotlight

Ayden and I love adventures. Especially those that include sunshine on our faces, fresh air and beautiful nature. This weekend we took a trip out to Jacksonville Arboretum Gardens.

Website:

The gardens and trails are a great way to explore your city and find peace and connect with nature. 120 acres of woodland full of trails, a beautiful two acre lake with 100 different types of plants and a series of ecological habitats.

Safety protocols include masks or face coverings, social distancing and maintaining at least 6 feet apart at all times. If hiking ensure you follow the signs listed on the trails as they are designated for one way traffic. Bring water, snacks and lunch if you desire. Several picnic tables are available in the area in the two acre loop in the shade to sit and enjoy. Be sure and pack your bug spray and SPF for hiking. Bikes are not allowed on the trails, and pets are welcome on a leash.

Parking is located in the front and was pretty full mid afternoon on a Sunday. Hours of operation are from 8AM – 7PM Monday – Thursday and 8AM-5PM Friday to Sunday. Be sure to arrive mid morning to get as it can get full. Bathrooms are located near the parking lot area if needed. And for $3.00 donation it’s well worth it.

We explored the gardens and the entrance of the trails, looked at the flowers and even saw the baby alligator and some wild life. Butterflies are everywhere in the garden and the pond is full of lily pads. Plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view, photography opportunities and a treat for any nature enthusiast who wants to get some sunshine.
