Things to do while staying in Daytona Beach

We recently got away for a weekend for Spring Break to Daytona Beach. We stayed less than one block from the beach and main strip and stayed in a small studio AIRBNB. It was straight heaven perfect for a family of three and the fur baby.

The location was in walking distance from the beach, pier and boardwalk. So it was super accessible to just park the car and commute everywhere on foot.

First night there we explored the boardwalk, pier and shops and ended up eating at Joe’s Crab Shack. We sat outside with a clear view of the ocean right at sunset. It books up quickly and we were lucky to get a table outside. The staff was exceptional not only to my family but my dog, server was attentive and we never were without a drink or taken care of. He even went as far as moving us from a corner table to a more central spot due to the wind. The food was hot, seasonal and delicious, but the view is what makes it an icon if you visit.

Anytime we go on a trip, I like to go where the locals hang out.

Located ten miles south of Daytona along the World’s Most Famous Beach, the Town of Ponce Inlet is one of Florida’s best kept secrets.

With natural beauty, history, numerous outdoor activities, excellent eateries, and relaxing atmosphere and places to eat, look forward to countless of hours of fun.

Lighthouse & Museum

We spent a few hours hanging out at the local park adjacent to the lighthouse which looked like a pirate ship. Perfectly shaded location for the kids to play, with picnic tables and swings. Park is also equipped with a clean rest area and water fountains.

Pirate Ship Park

After spending a few hours at the park we headed to the inlet to fly a kite and spend a little time in the water with the family and dog. The sand was white, water cool and view breath taking. This area allows pets and for a small entry fee you can park and walk.

If your looking to enjoy a few hours at the Lighthouse, Pirate park and inlet beach area you can’t leave without enjoying lunch at a local gem Hidden Treasure which is located adjacent to the Lighthouse. They boast to have one of the largest collections of vintage rum in Florida and chefs that serve authentic local flavors in a casual Key West atmosphere. They serve fresh Florida seafood, award winning burgers and more. Seating is outside on deck with a view of the inlet and is pet friendly.

I enjoyed the Rachel Cod blackened Sandwich topped with Swiss cheese and house coleslaw on toasted rye bread with battered fries. The boys enjoyed the coconut shrimp and the crust was the best we all have ever had with Key lime pie for dessert.

A fantastic meal with a view was the perfect ending for our little day trip to Ponce Inlet. Heading back to the room to relax for a little bit before dinner we stopped at a local Italian pastry shop I had spotted on the way.

Vittoria’s Italian Coffee & Pastry is a must and we got a Sfogliatella and a cream horn.

They have a facebook page however here’s the address: 3106 S Atlantic Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32118

Another great area we got to spend some time at is Andy Romano Beachfront Park. Its a four acre park located along the beach. The park offers beach access, off-beach parking, a splash pad, playground, pavilions, concessions, and restrooms. Its not only clean but well maintained. Be sure and get there early as it does fill up quickly.

Two other foodie places you must visit while in Daytona.

The Dancing Avocado Kitchen is a eclectic little restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch and was founded out of love for healthy and thoughtfully prepared food. We got to sit outside on there vibrant outdoor patio and is pet friendly. Definitely a unique dinning experience in the downtown historic district, with fresh ingredients right down to the juice bar. Check them out if passing through or staying for the weekend.

Another must have foodie experience is Donnies Donuts. Vintage donuts with modern charm also featured on the Food Network by Tyler Florence. With a variety of amazing donuts and coffee you won’t be disappointed.

With a quick trip from Jacksonville, Daytona made the perfect get away for a few days, to enjoy amazing weather, beautiful beaches, great food and fantastic memories.
